2021 started with a pleasant recognition from financial newspaper Äripäev. BHC got nominated for the second time (previous nomination in 2014) in Äripäev’s Gazelle contest. Companies nominated there have increased revenue and profit at least 50% in 3 years.

The sales revenue was ca €3,3 million and 34 people were working in the company.

At the beginning of the year, we fully switched to the new production software NOOM and the first half of the year went by introducing and adapting the software. Today, production planning, production monitoring and sales planning are working superbly and the program helps BHC to monitor the requirements of our own MMO quality program.

Investing in machinery continued as we planned and in the first half of the year we bought new CNC Puma GT2600LM. This machine enables to speed up the intermediate processing of piston rods and tubes. In the final days of 2021, a new cylinder parts washer Contino Cylinder BS1, was installed. It has increased the amount of washable parts almost 60%, while also improving the quality of the process.

In 2021, a total number of 38757 cylinders were produced with exceptionally low complaints ratio by product (0,39%). We maintained good relationships with our regular customers and also made contacts with new ones. In the strategic development plan made in 2017, BHC set a goal to increase revenue to €5,3 million by year 2025 and in 2021 we successfully stayed on schedule. We started mapping new target customers and also started negotiations with companies in Nordic agricultural sector. In this sector we see high growth potential in the upcoming years.

Expansion in Machinery

This month, BHC expanded its machinery with Doosan PUMA GT2600LM horizontal turning center. With the increased number of orders, we needed to increase our production capacity.

New Production Software

At the beginning of 2021, BHC acquired a new production software NOOM, offered by Estonian company Astro Baltics (AB). AB’s offer is made more comprehensive by the business software, offered by the same company, which administrates the information received from the production side and enables its quick and easy processing. The purchase of the production software was partly financed by Enterprise Estonia’s ’’Company’s Development Program’’. First assessments after 6 months have been positive. Factory’s manager Madis Agur finds that the main benefits are: accurate and true overview of the inventory, possibility to attach production drawings to production orders and great reporting capabilities.

BHC on Vacation

BHC can gladly tell that 2021 has been above our expectations. We have fulfilled all the orders taken in the first half of the year by deadline and we have produced more than 21000 cylinders this year. We consider it a good result, given the COVID-19 situation. So, from July 19 to August 16 we will be on a well-deserved vacation.

Changes in Welding Workshop

At the end of 2020, we started a transition to replace our welding workshop with Fronius welding
machines. In January 2021, we installed the last welding machine. Kait Lukka (CEO): ’’Since 2018, we
have knowingly and systematically developed all the BHC’s procedures, keeping in mind our own
MMO™’s (Mining, Marine and Offshore) production standard requirements and maximum
digitalization of production. ’’
At the moment, Baltic Hydraulic Cylinders (BHC) has 5 TPS 320I C Pulse/4R/FSC welding machines
from Fronius. One of them is robotic welding. Traceabilty is quaranteed by Fronius WeldCube
documentation and data analysis software.
All the Fronius welding machines record the value of every welded joints like:
1. Number of the welded joint
2. Date and time of the beginning of welding
3. Time spent for welded joint
4. Electric current- A
5. Voltage- V
6. Wire feed speed- m/min
7. Electric power- W
8. Electrical enery- kJ
Collecting data like that helps to assure WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) – traceability and
rightness of the welding procedure values.
